Why would Chelsea ask a robot to pick up an egg or bowling ball, it may not know how to adjust the grip to suit different weights.
A new smart glove allows the neural network to learn the shape and weight of an object only by embedding a sensor in the glove, which can be used for robots in factories or homes, we can even be taught how to control humans.
"We are very hopeful that one day we will be able to understand human mastery, which will unleash the potential for us to create this dexterity in robots," said subamanian Sundaram of MIT.
"Now, it's hard to imagine a robot loading a dishwasher, but this technology can change that.

Sensitive film to the palm and fingers of knitted gloves, and 64 conductive silver wire networks were stitched in it.
When applying pressure at the 548 points at which they intersect, the resistance of the film below is reduced, allowing the glove to detect the weight and shape of the object held by the wearer, and the pressure generated when the hand moves.
"The data is passed on to neural networks that learn to find patterns," Sundaram said . ".
"It can tell if you are holding an object with a long edge, such as a blackboard eraser, rather than something more spherical like a tennis ball.
"These are just two of the 26 objects they use sensors on their gloves to train the neural network-the others include a kitten statue, a stapler and a coffee cup.
By understanding the correlation between different pressure points, the neural network can detect 89 objects.
Accuracy of 4%.
Because the gloves are cheap-the production cost is only £ 8-it can be easily copied and used to create data sets on more objects, Sundaram said.
The team wants to use more people to test it, he added, which may take into account the size or cultural differences of a range of hands.
"In different cultures, the way we take coffee may be different," he said . "
